Family Talks
Family Talks is a PLAN Initiative to:
- Identify the main priorities and concerns of people with disabilities and their families.
- Share information and knowledge through online dialogue.
- Build the capacity of families and spark innovation.
Family Talks is a forum-based website containing discussion strands on disability-related topics, including financial security, housing, relationships, and supported decision-making. Anyone can sign up to use the forums and participate in lively debate. Members pose and address questions on topics ranging from the Registered Disability Savings Plan to employment counselling.
It is also a research and capacity-building tool. A survey conducted in 2010/11 with Vision Critical aims to understand the common needs of people with disabilities, and to stimulate targeted solutions. By connecting families with common concerns, Family Talks will build community, learning, and innovation.
